Project:
Dayton, Ohio - Great Miami River Utility Crossing
Installation
Date: November 2001
 |
A
utility crossing was needed before a bridge could be replaced
for the City of Dayton. The contractor immediately called
FAS-DAM Systems®. We sent a crew to look at the site with the contractor
and designed a system to give the best protection for the
project. A 12-foot FAS-DAM Systems® was installed. This cost-effective
system allowed the Contractor to quickly span the more than
600 feet of river. |

The
customer had planned to cross this in low flow but the area
was under heavy rainfall. This was not a problem for the
FAS-DAM Systems®. Even though water reached over 14 feet in depth and
floating debris stacked up, pushing against the system, it
remained in place, allowing the contractor to finish the job
on time. This system, opposed to driven sheet piling, eliminates
the need for pile driving equipment and cross-bracing, which
keeps the project moving much quicker than conventional systems..

This
project required compliance with Federal Water Quality Standards
and local governments, as do most difficult jobs. The Great
Miami runs right through the heart of Dayton. All water issues
were met and exceeded.
